Frequently Asked Questions
Many cross our paths with questions about what we do and how we do it. Below are some of the most common questions. Call Rev. Barnes directly at 703-863-5491 for further information. She is happy to speak with you and guide you to the service, resources or practitioner to best serve your spiritual needs.
What is a spiritual reading?
Energy is in everything and everyone. A spiritual reading taps into this energy, giving clients insight into how energy is working with them or against them. The goal is to empower clients to make better choices to create their respective destinies. A reader “tunes in” or senses the energy around a client to discern information or messages set to help, heal or comfort.
The messages may come in the form of predictions, premonitions, warnings, affirmations, confirmations, communication with the spirit world, or anything in between. It’s the reader’s job to tell the story, interpreting the messages and nuances of energy and the symbols through which energy sometimes manifests.
Sessions may include metaphysical tools and practices to help clarify or emphasize messages. Some include tarot or oracle cards, numerology, palmistry, pendulums, and automatic writing, a channeled form of reading in which readers quickly write down messages in response to a client’s questions.
Our empowerment-based readings have guided clients to better days for more than 10 years. We love to see clients grow beyond us. It’s a great compliment to see our clients grow into powerful, intuitive beings who no longer need our services.
What is spiritual counseling/coaching?
Like our brand of readings, spiritual counseling/coaching is infused with compassion and clear strategy designed to empower clients to master mind-body-spirit discipline and reach their personal goals.
With open minds, hearts and spirits, we listen to our clients and gently guide them to their respective points of power. Meditation, affirmation, prayer and dialogue are some of the techniques we use in these sessions.
Sometimes our clients reach out to us, but really need medical attention. Often they have had bad experiences with doctors, psychologists, therapists, psychiatrists etc. We aren’t medical doctors and value good, responsive medical care. We take seriously our duty to refer clients to one of our trusted associate medical doctors who are best trained to treat depression, anxiety, trauma issues and other medical afflictions.
Spiritual counseling/coaching can work with medical care, but never instead of it. This approach is ideal for those who seek guidance to meet goals and relate to their lives in more spiritually balanced ways. We are interfaith, which means we honor many paths to the divine, including no path or faith at all.
How long has Rev. Barnes been working professionally and what are her roots?”
For more than a decade, Rev. Barnes has been offering interfaith spiritual counseling and guidance to clients. As the daughter and granddaughter of natural mystics and deeply spiritual people, she sensed presences, received premonitions, prophetic dreams and experienced other gifts since before she could speak.
Her spirituality is diverse and based on the following core beliefs:
- God/Goddess/All That Is is everywhere and not restricted by sex, race, ethnicity or any particular religion.
- There are many paths to the sacred.
- Every being deserves love, comfort, hope and peace.
Rev. Barnes leads a growing team of seasoned practitioners sharing those beliefs, and representing diverse spiritual paths.
What is the deal with tarot cards?
Tarot cards are an ancient system of divination that can be very predictive of the future—but they are merely tools. The power is always-and only-within each of us. We create the future with the choices that we make right now. Don’t like your life? Congratulations! You have the power to change it. As for the cards, it is how they are used that determines whether they are accurate and, most importantly, vessels of light or darkness.
Ever witness a holy scripture hijacked and used out of context and inappropriately? The scripture itself isn’t good or evil. The interpretation and use of the words are at issue. We’ll address this in a future blog posting and upcoming classes.
How often should I get a reading or have a spiritual counseling session?
Follow your instincts. Like many clients, your needs may vary. We’ll work with you to discern the best schedule for you.
How should I prepare for a session…and why do you charge?
It is as acceptable to show up with a list of questions as it is to show up with no idea why you showed up. We are skilled, trained, ordained, committed and open to offering spiritual services.
That said, we discourage making an appointment of any kind if you intend to demand a “show.” Kindly, spare us all this futile, brutal exercise. One wouldn’t dream of going to a doctor and demanding, “You tell me where it hurts!”
Our sessions are 30 to 60 minutes, and it is our desire to be of the greatest service to our clients in that limited time. We choose to share our gifts and talents in the spirit of honoring our ancestors’ sacred healing paths. The exchange of money for time makes it possible for us to serve our clients and pay our bills. Money does not empower any client to use their time with us in any manner they choose. We’ll spare you the details. But we know of what we speak. Said clients met the door, with their money returned and our best wishes.
Serving our clients is our mission and our joy. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who attempts to misuse or abuse our gifts, services or any practitioner.
Blessings of peace, love and empowerment to all.
